NGO DANG HIEP

Ngo Dang Hiep was born on 25 December 1962 in Da Nang, Vietnam. He graduated from the Hue University of Fine Arts and later completed his postgraduate studies in fine arts in Ho Chi Minh City. He is the former Head of the Fine Arts Department and lecturer at the Central Pedagogical College in Nha Trang, where he trained generations of young art teachers and painters.

Ngo Dang Hiep is a member of the Khanh Hoa Provincial Literature and Arts Association and has been actively involved in Vietnam's art scene since the early 1990s. He first participated in the National Fine Arts Exhibition in 1990 and has regularly joined annual Spring exhibitions in Khanh Hoa province from 1990 to the present. In 2009, he held a solo exhibition in Khanh Hoa, and in 2024 his works appeared in a group show at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts. His paintings have also been featured in exhibitions and art tours at resorts and galleries in Nha Trang and Ho Chi Minh City, where he often appears as a key invited artist.

Romantic realism is the consistent thread in Ngo Dang Hiep's practice: his main subjects are landscapes, young women and children, rendered with a nostalgic, poetic sensibility. He frequently works with watercolor, silk, oil and acrylic, using decorative color harmonies to evoke peaceful rural scenes, gentle coastal towns and the quiet beauty of Vietnamese life. As the artist has shared, he hopes viewers can rediscover the joy and innocence of their own childhood when contemplating his works.
