HOANG LAM

Hoàng Ngọc Lâm (born 1982) is a Vietnamese visual artist based in Hanoi. He studied at the Hanoi University of Fine Arts from 2008 to 2013, where he developed a strong academic foundation in fine arts and contemporary painting. Since his student years, Lâm has actively participated in Vietnam's art scene and has been featured in several notable exhibitions, including the Young Art Exhibition (2010–2012), the 18th Red River Delta Regional Fine Arts Exhibition (2013), the Hanoi Capital Fine Arts Exhibition (2014), and an exhibition at Art52 Gallery, Hanoi (2018).

Working primarily in oil on canvas, Hoàng Ngọc Lâm is known for his textured palette-knife technique, through which he blends figurative imagery with expressive abstraction. His paintings often draw from Vietnamese cultural memory, depicting rural architecture, village life, and ethnic minority portraits as emotional and symbolic subjects rather than literal representations. Solid forms are constructed through thick layers of paint, while backgrounds dissolve into subtle movements of color and texture.

Through a restrained color palette and calm, introspective figures, Lâm's work emphasizes stillness, identity, and inner presence. His practice reflects an ongoing dialogue between tradition and contemporary expression, offering a quiet yet powerful reflection on memory, place, and cultural continuity.
