CHU THU

Chu Thu is a Vietnamese lacquer painter born in 1984 in Ha Tay province, Dan Phuong district, Hanoi. She grew up in Son La City and currently lives and works in Thanh Hoa province. She graduated from the Vietnam University of Fine Arts and is a member of both the Vietnam Fine Arts Association and the Thanh Hoa Fine Arts Association.

Specializing in lacquer painting (son mai), a traditional and distinctive medium of Vietnamese art, Chu Thu's practice reflects a deep respect for material, process, and cultural heritage. Working with lacquer and silk, she carefully builds layered surfaces that emphasize depth, rhythm, and subtle color transitions—qualities intrinsic to the lacquer tradition.

Her works balance tradition and contemporary sensibility, transforming classical materials into poetic visual expressions. Through refined composition and quiet tonal harmony, Chu Thu's paintings evoke a sense of inner calm, memory, and cultural continuity rather than literal narration.

Chu Thu has participated in numerous regional and national exhibitions, including the North Central Region Fine Arts Exhibitions and the Vietnam National Fine Arts Exhibition. Her continued practice contributes to the preservation and renewal of Vietnamese lacquer painting within a contemporary artistic context.
